The NPP outlines the provider’s legal obligations and explains the minor’s rights regarding their privacy and use of their health data and information.

A notice of privacy practice is required by HIPAA law. The notice must include authorization before health records are shared, the duties of the organization to safeguard protected health information, the privacy rights of minors, and how to contact the clinical practice or organization for more information.

The purpose of the document is to establish transparency regarding how a minor client’s information will be shared, be compliant with privacy laws (HIPAA), build trust and rapport for confidentiality, and clearly communicate therapy practice procedures with regard to health information.
