The Notice of Privacy Practices outlines the provider’s legal obligations and explains the client’s rights regarding their privacy and use of their health data and information. 

A notice of privacy practice is required by HIPAA law.

The notice must include:

  • Authorization before health records are shared
  • The duties of the organization to safeguard protected health information
  • The privacy rights of the client
  • How to contact the clinical practice or organization for more information
  • The purpose of the document is to establish transparency regarding how a patient's information will be shared, be compliant with privacy laws (HIPAA), build trust and rapport for confidentiality, and clearly communicate therapy practice procedures with regard to health information.
